After the break up of High Tide, Derek embarked on a solo career and began playing his original material
throughout the local Annapolis, MD, area.  Most of these songs were written in various places, but all had
been worked on and tweaked over the years back home in New Hampshire, in a quiet sunroom that not many
people are able to find.  As Derek performed these originals, the common denominator seemed to be the
magickal time spent in that room, and the idea for T
he Sunroom Sessions was born.

Solo at this point, Derek made the decision to do everything in-house.  3rdSide the concept was developing
around this time, so in addition to working on the first CD, 3rdSide Productions and 3rdSide Studios were
created to design and promote the project.

Derek also assumed the mantle of writer, composer, performer, recording engineer, mixer, and masterer for
the entire
Sunroom Sessions project.  This wasn't due to choice, but rather available resources.  With a little
help from his friends, the album began to develop.

The first song recorded was
Caught Up In Rain. This was originally recorded as just a demo idea, and the
original recording session of it was actually lost, so it couldn't be remastered for the completion of the CD, but
it was left as is, as Derek felt it captured what he was trying to achieve with the song.

From there, songs were recorded at various times, and at various periods. Different than most albums where
studio time is scheduled, this CD was recorded in an apartment during times of ups and downs... and it's
reflected throughout the timbre of the tracks.

Completion of the CD recordings took 6 months, and then another 8 for Derek to learn how to mix and master.
Once recordings were finished, 3rdSide recruited Kym B Designs for the artwork, and the disc was done.

It doesn't get more personal or more grassroots than
The Sunroom Sessions.  Derek's intention was to take
the listener on a journey and drop you off with a bit more than you began.  ~Jah love~
